About The Otane Sports Club
The Otane Sports Club Incorporated is a proud Central Hawke’s Bay community sports club and a registered charity (CC56808), providing structured opportunities for people to play sport, improve wellbeing, and build community connection.
Who we are
We are an inclusive, volunteer-powered club with around 200 members, offering Rugby and Netball in the winter season and Touch Rugby in the summer. Our focus is not only competition, but also creating a safe, positive base in our community where families and friends can be active together, meet new people, and enjoy sport as part of a healthier lifestyle.
As a charity-minded community organisation, we aim to ensure our activities provide a clear public benefit—encouraging regular physical activity, improving social wellbeing, and supporting community participation. In New Zealand, sport can be charitable when it is the means of achieving wider charitable outcomes such as promoting health or social inclusion for a significant section of the public. [web:16]
- Seasonal sport programmes: Rugby & Netball (winter), Touch Rugby (summer).
- A welcoming environment that encourages participation, enjoyment, and fair play.
- Opportunities to build fitness, confidence, and strong social connections.
- Volunteer roles that help members contribute to the wider community.
We work to keep sport accessible and community-focused, aiming for outcomes that benefit more than just a small group. This reflects the expectation that charitable sport and recreation organisations demonstrate public benefit and are not run for private gain. [web:16]
We value respect, teamwork, and a family-friendly culture—creating a place where people can stay active, make friends, and feel proud to represent Central Hawke’s Bay.
A place to belong
From match days to trainings and club events, we aim to be a positive hub where members feel included, supported, and motivated to stay active year-round.
